Her research has in recent years led the artist to create canvases in which matter and colour, reason and sensibility are confronted.  Matter such as sand and mortar have become her indispensable tools.  They help her to create canvases that go beyond an initial contemplative reading and plunge the spectator into his own emotional universe.

Couturier is disinclined to create series of works, she remains convinced that each new painting carries the story of its predecessor within it.  They are like the pages of her intimate diary, a resting-place on an infinite journey, a still image of her vision of the world.
