Clarence Bourgouin is self-taught. The artist delights in nature and rural scenes. "I paint subjects that express the beauty and simplicity of life, and I attempt to reproduce the energy and the character of what I see." The artist favours the landscapes of Charlevoix and the Saguenay, in addition to those of his native region of New Brunswick.
In 1987, he was listed in the Collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
